The University of South Florida is expanding its role as a leader in technology education with the launch of the Bellini College of Cyber & AI, a new academic hub designed to prepare students for careers in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and emerging digital fields.
A Major Investment in Florida’s Tech Future
The new college, supported by a significant philanthropic gift, represents one of the largest investments in USF’s history. University officials say the funding will create additional faculty positions, expand undergraduate and graduate programs, and support research initiatives that connect students with real-world applications.
“This is about ensuring Florida has the talent and expertise to lead in one of the most competitive sectors of the global economy,” said USF President Rhea Law. “Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence touch every industry, and this college will give our students the opportunity to be at the forefront.”
So how is USF preparing the Next Generation of Cyber and AI Experts?
USF currently offers a range of programs in computer science, information security, and data analytics, but the Bellini College is expected to unify these disciplines under one academic home. New courses will focus on critical areas such as AI ethics, advanced machine learning, cyber defense, and digital forensics.
By integrating these programs, USF aims to attract top talent and create a pipeline of skilled graduates ready to serve Florida’s growing tech industry, as well as national defense and security sectors.

The college comes at a time when Florida is experiencing rapid growth in its technology sector. Defense contractors, financial institutions, and healthcare systems are among the industries increasing investment in cybersecurity and AI solutions. Tampa Bay, in particular, has emerged as a hub for tech startups and innovation.
Local industry leaders believe the new college will strengthen Florida’s position as a destination for talent and research partnerships. “This will put Tampa and USF on the map nationally,” said Chris Cavoli, a cybersecurity consultant based in St. Petersburg. “Companies want access to skilled workers, and initiatives like this will provide exactly that.”
Impact Beyond the Classroom
In addition to degree programs, the Bellini College is expected to offer certificate training and continuing education for professionals already in the field. University leaders emphasize that workforce training is a priority, with plans to host public-private collaborations, workshops, and community outreach programs.

With construction and planning underway, the Bellini College of Cyber & AI is slated to welcome its first class of students in fall 2026. For the Tampa Bay region, the college is being hailed as a milestone in the area’s transformation into a hub for technology, research, and economic growth.
